Introducing the Edgware Eagles

If you were unfortunate enough to miss the club's pre-season meal on Saturday 17th March, you would have missed some exciting news in what was an informative and banter-heavy evening.

The main takeaway was the announcement of a new T-20 side, who will play for the first time in the 2019 season. The 'Edgware Eagles' as they are currently being known as, will play 3-4 T20 matches during the 2019 summer on Friday evenings, with pink balls, coloured clothing, flashing bails and stumps and music ringing around the ground.

But why the initiative? The 'Eagles' are designed to be the breeding ground of new Edgware CC talent, with a minimum of 4 Under-17's to play each game. The shorter format and festival environment is hoped to engage with the younger cricketers in Edgware and teach them the basic skills that will hopefully see them move from youth cricket into competitive adult cricket.

"I think it would be short-sighted to assume that myself and a lot of the our more senior guys can fill the Edgware team sheet for the next 10-20 years. Life is very unpredictable and nobody knows where they will end up. If we want to ensure the future of this club, then initiatives like this are vital" said club chairman Ciaran Hosty.

Other news included, the club's ambition to take part in the 'Royal London Club Championship' from the 2019 season. The competition which sees 256 sides from England and Wales participate in a nationwide competition, with the final taking place at a 'County Ground' would provide additional challenge for the up and coming Edgware team.
